Merrimack's Making Progress

To the community of Merrimack:

Thank you very much for the opportunity to work and serve you on the Town Council over the past three years. It has been an honor and privilege representing you. I seek re-election to the Council to maintain and continue the good work the Council and the community has done to make Merrimack one of the best and safest places to live in New Hampshire and the United States.

My campaign theme is Merrimack's Making Progress. When I first ran for the Town Council, our growing community was at a crossroads. This growth spurt developed at a time where leadership was needed to strategically plan for this growth. As a member of the Town Council during this period in time, we’ve worked diligently with other community leaders and boards to ensure Merrimack is making progress in different focus areas, specifically:

·         Solid Waste: We have saved over $300K in cost avoidance this year alone. This means our community is wholly focused on recycling while ensuring our trash disposal is truly trash;

·         Roads and Infrastructure: The Town Council has budgeted, saved and expended monies from our Capital Reserve Funds to improve our roads, maintain our bridges and ensure our drainage culverts don’t fail. And, while watching the bottom line with our budget and tax rate, we have saved significant funds to plan for future improvements in our community;  

·         Quality of Life: Our community has positively changed with the development of Grater Woods, Wildcat Falls and Wasserman Park. Watson Park has emerged as a focal point in our Town Center, a vision that has been several years in the making and nurtured by so many in our community. We now have many open spaces for people to congregate and recreate; and lastly,

·         Economic Development: We have created the mindset with outsiders that Merrimack is a diverse, business-friendly community, locally and regionally. Nanocomp, Atrium Medical, GT Solar and Able Ebenezer Brewing Company chose Merrimack as their place of business. Fidelity, Kollsman, BAE and Anheuser-Busch/InBev continue to call Merrimack home. This has had a tremendous impact on our commercial and residential tax bases. The creation of Economic Revitalization Zones (“ERZ’s”) in Merrimack on the Shaw's Plaza and Zyla's property should serve to further contribute to the mindset, and encourage new businesses to grow and settle in Merrimack. Our Premium Outlets certainly serves as an economic linchpin as well. While our state economy isn’t as robust as it could be, Merrimack's regional economic growth has had a huge impact. In this regard, we need to be continually vigilant to ensure Merrimack retains its business-friendly culture and economic viability in the region.

Based upon the above, I seek re-election to the Town Council because experienced leadership is needed to continue the progress we have made as a community. We need to ensure that our Town positions itself strategically for future growth, remains fiscally sound to accommodate that growth, continues to promote its economic diversity while maintaining our business friendliness to preserve and protect our quality of life.
