MYA Wrestlers Throwdown in Weekend of Wrestling

Wrestlers participate in back to back events in Natick, MA and Peterborough, NH

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program brought eleven wrestlers to the Ed Deeley Youth Wrestling Tournament held at Natick High School in Natick, MA on January 13, 2018. And twelve wrestlers to the Conval Youth Wrestling Classic held at Conval High School in Peterborough, NH on January 14, 2018. Merrimack represented well in the busy weekend of events with individual results below:

Ed Deeley Youth Wrestling Tournament

Kindergartner Bennett Meehan had one win by pin and one by points to bring home fourth place medal.

Andrew Schuster, grade 1, battled hard in his 48.5 lb weight bracket.

Third graders Collin Schuster, Luke Emond and Aiden Kennedy all wrestled tough in their respective brackets with Emond winning one match by pin on the day.

Cayden Dine and Jackson Meehan, grade 4 took home second and third place respectively with Dine taking two wins by pin and Meehan three wins by pin.

Fifth grader Ivey Johnson took third place on the podium with two wins by points.

Owen Forrest and Mitchell Krupp, grade 6, took home second and third place medals respectively each grabbing one win by pin on the day.

Conval Youth Wrestling Classic:

Andrew Schuster, grade 1, took home his first career champ title breezing through his bracket with one win by pin and two by points. First grader Calissa Bell fought hard in her bracket.

Collin Schuster, Kael McAloon, Luke Emond, Benjamin Goldstein, Liam Newman and Micah Dodds represented Merrimack in the third grade division. Newman grabbed two pins on the day to take second place on the podium. Schuster, McAloon and Emond each grabbed third place medals in their respective brackets.

Fourth grader Gryffen Gelinas completed two wins by points to take second place.

Owen Forrest and Brendan Curley, grade 6, took home second and third place respectively with Forrest winning two matches by pin.

Hunter Adams, grade 8, took third place medal home.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-8. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world's oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The Program is in its 13th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
