MYA Wrestling Competes in Chelmsford Youth Wrestling Tournament

16 Merrimack Youth Wrestlers Compete in Competitive Chelmsford Tournament

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program competed in the Annual Chelmsford Youth Wrestling Tournament held at Chelmsford High School in Chelmsford, MA on January 7, 2018. The highly attended tournament drew very good talent from all over MA and NH. Sixteen wrestlers from the MYA competed with individual results below:

Kindergartners Bennett Meehan and Kameron Lewis both took second place medals home and each had one win by pin and one win by points on the day. Ryan Safa, K, wrestled hard in the 44.6lb weight bracket placing fourth.

Andrew Schuster, grade 1 and Ryan Marone, grade 2 each competed hard in the 49.6lb and 81.2lb weight brackets, respectively. Schuster took fourth and Marone fifth place on the podium.

Kael McAloon, Ben Koudriashov, Micah Dodds, Luke Emond, Collin Schuster and Amir Safa all represented Merrimack in the third grade bracket. Koudriashov and Dodds each had one win by pin on the day taking third place medals. Schuster grabbed two wins by points to take second place on the podium. Emond, Safa and McAloon all fought hard in their respective brackets taking fourth place on the day.

Jackson Meehan, grade 4 had one win by pin and one win by points to snag second place medal.

Fifth grader, Ivey Johnson had one win by pin on the day and took home third place.

Brendan Curley, grade 6 brought home his first career champ title breezing through his bracket winning against all three opponents by points. Other sixth graders Owen Forrest snagged one commanding win by points for third place and Danny Safa fought hard in the 106lb weight bracket taking home fourth place.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-8. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world's oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The Program is in its 13th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
