MYA Wrestling competes in full weekend of wrestling in NH

Wrestling season in full swing in the state of NH

In the height of wrestling season there are many opportunities in the state of NH to wrestle and this weekend was no exception. The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program brought four wrestlers to the Rundlett Invitational for 5-8th graders in Concord, NH on January 20, 2018. And twenty-one wrestlers to the Screaming Eagles K-4 Novice Wrestling Tournament in Merrimack, NH on January 21, 2018. Merrimack represented well in Concord and Merrimack with individual results below:

Rundlett Invitational:

Ivey Johnson, grade 5: 1st place

Sixth grade:
Owen Forrest: 1st place

Mitchell Krupp and Danny Safa also participated in the tournament each with one win on the day. Danny Safa also had his first career win, controlling the match 7-0.

Screaming Eagles Tournament:

Kindergarten:

Kameron Lewis: 1st, Bennett Meehan: 2nd, Ryan Safa: 3rd

First grade:

Andrew Schuster: 2nd; Allison McMahon, Olivia Dine and Calissa Bell also participated. McMahon debuted in her first career tournament and represented well for the Merrimack female wrestlers alongside Dine and Bell.

Second grade:

Ryan Marone: 3rd place

Third grade:

Benjamin Goldstein: 3rd, Collin Schuster: 3rd, Kael McAloon: 2nd, Liam Newman: 3rd, Amir Safa: 3rd, Luke Emond: 3rd, Emmi Haddad: 3rd, Rhys Dewar: 2nd, Finian Rousseau also represented Merrimack in the third grade bracket. Micah Dodds competed in two brackets taking 3rd place in the first bracket and champ title in the second bracket.

Fourth grade:

Jackson Meehan: 1st, Griffin Turgeon and Patrick Donahoe also represented Merrimack in the fourth grade bracket.

Fifth grader Ivey Johnson also competed in the dual that followed the tournament representing well in NH’s first all-female dual team.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-8. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world's oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The Program is in its 13th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
