MYA Wrestling Competes in Seacoast Youth Wrestling Tournament

Another great showing by Merrimack Youth Wrestling

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program attended the annual Winnacunnet Youth Wrestling Tournament in Hampton, NH on January 28, 2018. The tournament featured 8-man brackets with double elimination. Merrimack again brought a growing group of wrestlers to the event. The number of regular participants has been growing as the program continues to make great showings at tournaments in the state of NH and MA. Sixteen wrestlers attended from Merrimack with individual results below:

Kindergarteners Kameron Lewis and Bennett Meehan each had one win by pin and one by points taking home third place medals.

Ryan Marone, grade 2 fought very hard in the 80lb weight bracket with one very narrow loss by a couple of points taking him of contention.

As usual we had a very strong showing in the third grade brackets with the following wrestlers representing: Collin Schuster, Kael McAloon, Benjamin Koudriashov, Micah Dodds, Luke Emond, Rhys Dewar. Schuster and McAloon each had one pin on the day with Schuster taking fourth place on the podium. Koudriashov and Dewar each had two pins each with Koudriashov taking fourth after falling in final match in the consolation bracket. Dewar took home the champ title winning all three of his matches. Dodds and Emond held in tough in their respective 62lb and 72lb brackets.

Fourth graders Jackson Meehan and John Regal both snagged first place medal on the day with Meehan taking two wins by pin and one by points and Regal taking one win by pin and two by points. Gryffen Gelinas also wrestled hard in his 70lb weight bracket.

Fifth grader Ivey Johnson brought the heat with two wins by pin and two very narrow losses by a few points taking home fourth place medal.

Mitchell Krupp and Owen Forrest, grade 6, took home fourth and second place respectively. Forrest had two wins by pin and Krupp had one win by pin on the day. Brendan Curley, grade 6, also wrestled tough in his 113lb bracket with one win by points on the day.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-8. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world's oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The Program is in its 13th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
