MYA Wrestling competes in two large regional tournaments

The MYA Wrestling Program sent eleven wrestlers to compete in the Big Red Northeast Wrestling Championships held at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA, January 2, 2016.  This mega tournament draws the best talent from the New England region as well as NY, NJ, and PA. Nine wrestlers competed in the Jon Spohn Memorial Classic held at Salem High School in Salem, NH, January 3, 2106.  The 22nd annual wrestling classic is an official qualifying tournament for the Tournament of Champions and the Gene Mills Eastern Nationals.  Individual results were as follows:

Big Red Northeast Wrestling Championships:

Stand out seventh grader Aiden Hanning came in second place with three wins on the day, one of which was by pin.

Second grader Caden Dine competed strongly with two wins by pin.

Gavin Ross, grade 5, also competed with two wins by points.

Anson Dewar, grade 7, competed with one win by pin on the day.

First graders, Kael McAloon, Collin Schuster, Benjamin Koudriashov and Rhys Dewar, second grader, Christian Chestnut, fourth graders, Owen Forrest and Mitchell Krupp also competed in the tournament.

Jon Spohn Memorial Tournament:

First grader Rhys Dewar placed third with two pins on the day.

Second graders Caden Dine and Jackson Meehan both came in first with three pins each.

Anson Dewar, grade 7, took first place pinning one opponent.

Aiden Hanning, grade 7, took home second place with two pins on the day.

First grader, Kael McAloon, third grader, Ivey Johnson, fourth graders, Owen Forrest and Mitchell Krupp also competed in the tournament.
