MYA Wrestling has double header in Methuen and Hollis

MYA Wrestling has strong showing at Takedown Tournament in Methuen and MPAL Holiday Tournament in Hollis

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program competed in the Methuen Takedown Tournament held at Methuen High School in Methuen, MA on December 15, 2018. Top three in each respective bracket were awarded medals and Merrimack took home four medals on the day. Six wrestlers from the MYA competed. Additionally MYA Wrestlers attended the MPAL Holiday Tournament held at Hollis Brookline High School in Hollis, NH on December 16, 2018. Eleven wrestlers attended and nine took home medals on the day with individual results below:

Methuen:

Kindergartner Bennett Meehan fought hard in a tough bracket.

Fourth graders Luke Emond and Rhys Dewar took home 3rd and 1st place respectively. Emond had one win by points and one win by tech fall on the day. Dewar breezed through his bracket winning all of his matches, tech falling all of his opponents with the exception of one match which was won by points.

Nicolin Stevens, grade 5 fought hard in his respective bracket. Other fifth grader Jackson Meehan took home second place winning his matches by points and narrowly falling in his final match 0-2.

Sixth grader Ivey Johnson was crowned champ winning all of her matches pinning two competitors and beating her two other competitors by points.

MPAL:
Kindergartners Bennett Meehan and Caleb Bell each took home third place medal. Meehan had one win by pin and Bell fought hard in his bracket.

Kameron Lewis, grade 1, barreled through his bracket winning two by points and very narrowly missing one match by 1 point.

Second grader Calissa Bell defeated her first opponent by points taking home second place medal.

Ryan Marone, grade 3 found his stride easily defeating his first three opponents, pinning two of them and taking second place on the podium.

Aiden Kennedy, Luke Emond and Rhys Dewar represented the fourth grade contingent. Kennedy and Emond wrestled tough in stacked brackets. Dewar defeated one of his opponents by points and one by pin, falling by a mere 1 pt in the championship match against fellow teammate Cayden Dine taking home second place.

Fifth graders Cayden Dine and Gryffen Gelinas took home first place and second place, respectively. Dine breezed through his bracket pinning his first two opponents and defeating his fellow competitor Dewar in the final match who gave him a run for his money. Gelinas defeated his competition with one pin on the day.

Mitchell Krupp, grade 7, worked through his bracket with ease pinning three opponents and winning one by points taking home first place medal.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-8. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world's oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The Program is in its 14th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
