MYA Wrestling participates in Seacoast Youth Wrestling Tournament

3 Merrimack Wrestlers Earn Champ Titles

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program attended the annual Winnacunnet Youth Wrestling Tournament in Hampton, NH on January 27, 2019. The tournament featured 8-man brackets with double elimination. Merrimack again brought a growing group of wrestlers to the event. The number of regular participants has been growing as the program continues to make great showings at tournaments in the state of NH and MA. Thirteen wrestlers attended from Merrimack with individual results below:

Kindergartener Bennett Meehan took home third place medal fighting his way back in the consi bracket pinning all three of his opponents.

Kameron Lewis, grade 1, blew through his first two opponents pinning his weigh to the championship finals. He narrowly fell by a mere 1 pt in the final round to take second place on the podium.

Second grader Cash Torres took home his first career champ title pinning his first opponent and beating his other two opponents by points

Ryan Marone, grade 3, pinned his first opponent and grabbed third place medal on the day.

Fourth graders Micah Dodds, Luke Emond and Rhys Dewar worked hard in their respective brackets. Emond had one win on the day by points. Dodds also had a win by points taking home fourth place medal. Dewar wrestled up in the 5th/6th grade bracket taking home third place medal beating one of his opponents by pin and two by points.

Our 5th grade contingent was our largest and represented by John Regal, Gryffen Gelinas, Griffin Turgeon, Jackson Meehan and Nicolin Stevens. Regal, Gelinas and Turgeon wrestled tough on the day. Stevens completed two of his wins by pin taking home fourth place medal. Meehan defeated two of his opponents by pin and three by points earning first place.

Ivey Johnson, grade 6, breezed through her bracket pinning all of her opponents to earn first place medal.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-8. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world's oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The Program is in its 14th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
