New England Wrestling Governors Select NHWAY to Host
NHWAY selected to host 2019 Youth New England Wrestling Championships in Manchester.

Merrimack, NH (August 23, 2018) - The New Hampshire Wrestling Association for Youth (NHWAY) is proud to announce its selection as the tournament host for the 13th annual Youth New England Wrestling (YNEW) Championships. The championships bring together nearly 1,000 of the best wrestlers in grades 3-8 from all six New England states. NHWAY will host this year’s event on March 9-10, 2019 at the Sullivan Arena, on the
campus of Saint Anselm's College in Manchester, NH.
In talking about the upcoming event, NHWAY President Aaron McAloon said, “We are excited to be a part of bringing the championships back to the Granite State. The tournament Governors liked our plan to host
the event in a large venue and we found the perfect facility in Sullivan Arena.” McAloon believes that wrestlers and spectators will appreciate the large competition area and easy viewing from spectator seats. “The YNEW tournament staff will be able to run the tournament efficiently,” said McAloon, “and fans will be able to
watch the action from any seat in the house.”
Not unlike the Olympics, each year YNEW Governors seek a host site partner to hold the annual championships. The host organization provides facilities and manpower to assist tournament staff and the Governors control competition ensuring a consistent tournament experience for wrestlers and coaches. Tournament Director Mike Stuer said, “We had conversations with several wrestling organizations throughout the New England region. In the end, the YNEW Governors selected the New Hampshire proposal because of the quality of the venue and the capability of the host team. Proximity to the interstate highway as well as a community with numerous hotel and restaurant options were also big pluses. We are confident that holding the championships at Sullivan Arena will be a great experience for our wrestling families.”

“We hope the 2019 tournament sparks interest from more New England Wrestling groups,” Stuer added. “Whether they be USA Wrestling, NUWAY, club or town-affiliated programs, we'd like to see them be creative and participate in the host bid process. Our goal is to continue to improve New England Wrestling and a meaningful youth championship event is a great way to do that.”
