NHWAY Hosts First-Ever All-State Youth Wrestling Tournament

Bow, NH (February 13, 2022) and Keene, NH (February 20, 2022) - The New Hampshire Wrestling Association for Youth (NHWAY), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing youth wrestling, hosted it’s annual State Championship Tournament. Nearly 500 wrestlers age 5 to 15 years old competed over two days in a tournament that included both club and school-based teams for the first time to provide a true “All-State” New Hampshire championship for participants. The tournament also featured some female only brackets including first-ever female-only High School division.

Championship Day 1 was held at Bow High School on February 13th and included three age divisions, age 6 and under (6U), age 8 and under (8U), and a girls’ high school division. All of the high school girls competed as unattached wrestlers due to NHIAA rules concerning eligibility.

11 NHWAY State Champions were crowned across the three age divisions. Limenwa Kennedy from Bedford and Avery Gallagher from Nashua fought through very competitive brackets to become the first-ever all female high school state champions for New Hampshire.

Championship Day 2 was held at Keene High School on February 20th and included four age divisions, age 10 and under (10U), age 12 and under (12U), age 15 and under (15U), and a girls’ age 15 and under (G15U).

45 NHWAY State Champions were crowned across the four age divisions.

Five wrestlers became an exclusive group of wrestlers to become 4-time NHWAY State Champions: Brian Waller-Reitano (15U-Salem), Caden Smith (15U-Salem), Camden Arbogast (15U-Multiple), Gavin Cappuchi (10U-Salem), and Rhys Dewar (15U-Merrimack).

Brogan Beckman (10U-Salem), Cole Brandt (12U-Nashua), Eli Gagnon (12U-Nashua), and Jackson Meehan (15U-Merrimack) each became 3-time NHWAY State Champions.

The competition drew 493 of the best youth wrestlers from across the state filling brackets ranging from 43 pounds up to 260 pounds. Wrestlers were distributed among 7 age divisions in mostly 8-man double elimination brackets with 19 brackets requiring a 16-man bracket and another 6 requiring a 32-man bracket to determine a champion.

In all, a total of 56 state champions were crowned in an exciting two days of wrestling.

The Nashua Boys and Girls Club took home the Club Team Title while the Timberlane Middle School captured the School Team Championship. Complete team and individual results were as follows.
