Parolee Arrested On Felony Charges Outside Merrimack Childcare Center

MERRIMACK, NH — A parolee was arrested on Monday outside of a daycare center in Merrimack after being accused of stealing a car and possessing drugs.

Cops in Northumberland tipped off police in Merrimack that a stolen vehicle might be in town, according to Sgt. Michael Lambert of the Merrimack Police Department. The North Country officers were tracking the vehicle via its GPS. Officers in Merrimack were also told the suspect might have a stolen gun, but that was “suspect information,” Lambert said.

Using the data, police in Merrimack found the vehicle in the parking lot of the KinderCare Day Care on Continental Boulevard.

“Once locating the vehicle, a high-risk motor vehicle stop was conducted, which put the daycare into lockdown for a short time while the officers took the suspect (into custody),” Lambert said.

Steven Paquet, 27, of Groveton was arrested on receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled drug-fentanyl charges, both felonies.

“Paquet was also out on parole at the time of this incident,” he said. “After contact with Paquet’s parole officer, Paquet was to be detained on a parole violation hold and was brought to Hillsborough County of Corrections.”

Paquet is due in Hillsborough County Superior Court South on Nov. 30 for arraignment.

It is unknown what charges Paquet faced before being released on parole.
