Police: Dad Left Infant Alone in a Stroller at the Mall

Reda Said of Merrimack was arrested over the weekend on an endangering the welfare of a child charge.

A local man will be in court next week after police allege that he left an infant alone in a stroller while at the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall.

Reda Said, 39, of Sycamore Lane in Merrimack, was arrested on May 3, 2015, and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

According to a report, police were called to the mall at around 5:30 p.m. for a report of an infant left alone in a stroller.

When they arrived, they located a group of people along with mall security standing around a stroller with a small infant in a “car type seat.” Witnesses alleged that a man, later identified as Said, was with the stroller and a couple of other young children, “when he walked away with the two children leaving behind the stroller,” according to the report.

“They watched the stroller and after the male didn’t return, they notified security who in turn, called Merrimack Police,” according to Lt. Dean KillKelley of the Merrimack Police Department. “They estimated the child was left alone for 30 minutes.”

The reporting officer continued to talk to witnesses when the infant’s mother arrived at the scene and reportedly told police that she had gone into a nearby store and left the baby with its father. A short time later, Said returned to the area and allegedly told police “he was under the impression the child’s mother was with the stroller as he took the other two children to the nearby playground.”

Police applied for a warrant to charge Said and he turned himself into police on Sunday morning. He’s due in court on May 12.
