Register Wiffle Ball Tourney Fundraiser for Sgt. Ed Pane

Second annual Sgt. Ed Pane Wiffle Ball Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 17, will help raise money for Merrimack Police Officer living with ALS.

Registration is now being accepted for the second annual Sgt. Ed Pane Wiffle Ball Tournament at the American Legion on Baboosic Lake Road.

The tournament, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17, is a fundraiser for Sgt. Pane who was diagnosed in recent years  with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Pane is a longtime Merrimack resident, a 1985 Merrimack High School alum and a Merrimack Police Officer since 1996. Pane is a firearms instructor and prior to being promoted to sergeant, he was a detective in the criminal investigation unit.
About two years ago, he was diagnosed with ALS and due to the effects of the disease, he was forced to retire in November 2012.

Last year's wiffle ball champs, The Dubyaaas, have already confirmed they plan to defend their title. Are you up for the challenge of taking the crown in 2013?

Registration for teams of anywhere between one and five players costs $100 per team. All proceeds from registrations and concession stand sales will go toward helping Pane keep on top of mounting medical bills and personal expenses.

According to the website for the wiffle ball tournament, Pane "was an avid softball player (still involved with his team Nu Coat in the Merrimack Mens Slo Pitch League) and we thought a wiffle ball tournament would be a fun and appropriate way to raise some money. Whether you want to field a team, sponsor a field or just come by and watch the games to support Ed, we are looking forward to a great day."
