Scholarships, Awards Open to MHS Students
The following scholarships are available to juniors and seniors pursuing higher education. Some deadlines are fast approaching.

The following is a list of scholarships currently on file in Guidance. We invite you to come in to pick up any you may be interested in applying for. Watch the Deadlines.
The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship
The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund offers renewable, four-year scholarships to students with financial need who display academic excellence, a demonstrated sense of service to those around them, good character, and a strong work ethic. Awards are limited to residents of New England states and range from $3,000 to $10,000.
Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale), be enrolled in a demanding course of study, and demonstrate skilled writing ability.

2012 Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship
The Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship Program focuses on developing talent in the engineering and geosciences field by providing assistance to graduating high school seniors who have expressed an interest in the energy industry and demonstrated an aptitude in mathematics and science.
Shell will sponsor up to 20 one-year awards of $2,500 for graduating high school seniors enrolling in engineering or geosciences at universities identified by Shell. Upon successful completion of first year studies and other criteria established by Shell, the recipient may be eligible to receive a four-year renewable award of $5,000 annually.

To qualify, applicants must plan to enroll full-time in one of the following majors (geology, geophysics, physics, chemical, civil, electrical, geological, geophysical, mechanical or petroleum engineering) at a specified institution.

Scholarships for Military Children Program
This scholarship is available to dependent unmarried children under age 23 of active duty personnel, reserve/guard and retired military members, or survivors of service members who died while on active duty or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military, may apply for a scholarship. Dependent children of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), Public Health Service, other federal or military related agencies or activities, or DoD civilian employees are not eligible unless they meet the above requirement. Applicants should ensure that they, as well as their sponsor, are currently enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) database (or call 1-800-538-9552) and that they have a current dependent military ID card. The DEERS database will be the primary method of verifying eligibility.
Applicants must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university in the fall term of 2012. Applicants who have earned an undergraduate degree or who are enrolled in a graduate degree program are not eligible. All applicants must also have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 basis) to be eligible to apply. The minimum unweighted GPA requirement applies to both high school and college students. Students attending a community or junior college must be enrolled in a program of studies designed to allow the student to transfer directly into a four-year program. Applicants who receive an appointment to one of the U.S. Military Academies (or affiliated preparatory schools) or are awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. post-secondary institution of higher education are not eligible to receive funds from this program. A full scholarship is usually defined as one that provides for payment of tuition, books, lab fees, and other related expenses.

NH Water Pollution Control Association Student Scholarship
We are pleased to announce that the NHWPCA will award a $1000.00 scholarship to a graduating senior who meets the eligibility requirements listed below. Finalists will be selected and will be notified by the Scholarship Committee.
Individuals who apply for the NHWPCA Scholarship must:
- Be a resident of the state of New Hampshire.
- Be a graduating high school senior.
- Preference will be given to NHWPCA members and families
- Complete a standard application form and submit to the NHWPCA Scholarship Committee.
- Include a letter of reference, preferably from an individual in the environmental field.
- Apply to a post secondary school with an intended major in Water Pollution Control, Environmental Science, Engineering or Chemistry. Priority will be given to vocational students who are preparing for a field directly related to the water environment.

Skrungloo Farm, Inc. Student Scholarship
Skrungloo Farm, Inc. is a private foundation established in 1986, in order to provide direct aid, assistance and/or services, to the residents of, in order of priority: Sandwich, Center Harbor, Moultonboro, Carroll County, Belknap County, and then the entire State of New Hampshire. This includes providing scholarships for individual residents to educate and better themselves in order to build a stronger community.
Skrungloo Farm, Inc. is accepting applications from students who are legal residents of the United States and who reside in the State of New Hampshire. Students who are enrolling at an accredited postsecondary institution are eligible. Students may be enrolling in a vocational school, technical school, a 2 or 4 year college or university. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, academic merit, and other nonacademic factors such as community service, school activities and work experience.

New England Institute of Technology Senior Scholarship Program
New England Institute of Technology, the leader in technical education, is pleased to offer scholarships to high school students.
The New England Institute of Technology's NEIT Senior Scholarship Program is awarded to those high school seniors who have been identified by a high school educator or administrator to be a worthy recipient and who have enrolled or are interested in attending New England Institute of Technology.

New England Institute of Technology Contests
New England Institute of Technology is please to offer all high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to participate in a variety of high school contests. The contests are designed to encourage students to explore career choices and the employment skills required. Contest and registration information can be found on NEIT‟s web site, www.neit.edu.
The top three winning students in each contest will be recognized with NEIT tuition scholarships. First place will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship, second place, $1,500 scholarship, and third place, $1,000 scholarship.
Competitions offered include Technology Essay Contest, Automotive Technology Essay Contest, Interior Design Technology Contest, Architectural Building and Engineering Technology Design Contest, and Computer Aided Design-Mechanical Technology Contest.

The John B. Andrews Scholarship
The scholarship is open to children of New Hampshire municipal, school, county, and village district employees and officials of any unit of local government that is a member/participant in LGC services.
A minimum of 10 scholarships in the amount of $750 will be awarded statewide.

Red Sox Scholarship Program
The Red Sox Scholarship Program will award a $1,000 scholarship to 35 academically talented New Hampshire public high school seniors who have shown a commitment to community service and require financial aid. This prestigious scholarship award is for high school seniors pursuing a four-year or two-year degree at any college, university, or trade school.
This scholarship is open only to graduating seniors attending one of 35 select public high schools, including Merrimack High School. One recipient from each of the 35 high schools will be chosen from applications based on academic performance, demonstrated community service, and eligibility for financial aid.

New Hampshire Teachers of Mathematics Scholarship
This year's $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending an accredited college or university in the fall and plans to major in mathematics or mathematics education.

By going to this site, students will be able to fill out the application form on their computers and then submit it. Other application requirements and procedures are given.

180 Medical Scholarship Program
Eligible to high school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores, or juniors who plan to attend college in Fall 2012 for at least 12 credit hours. Applicants must be under a physician‟s care for spina bifida, a spinal cord injury, or transverse myelitis.

Hanscom Spouses Club Scholarship Program
The Hanscom Spouses Club awards merit based scholarships to high school seniors who hold a valid military ID card and are a dependent of military members in any branch of service - active, retired or deceased who live within 150 miles radius from Hanscom AFB in Bedford MA. Our program was established 50 years ago to support military dependents. In 2011 we were able to award over $41,000 in increments of $1500 to $4,500.
These merit based scholarships are based on personal responsibility, leadership, citizenship, diversity of interests and academic achievement. Our panel of impartial judges is not affiliated with our organization. We would greatly appreciate your encouragement and assistance for any military families attending your school.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program
It starts with good grades. But goes beyond.
A dedicated student. A leader in school. A volunteer worker. A college-bound and community-minded individual.
The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program wants to reward students who have succeeded both inside and outside of the classroom—and who may not be able to attend college without financial assistance. It's a reward for what you've made of yourself and the difference you are making for others.
The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is offering:
- Up to $25,000 per year for 100 first-time freshman or existing college students, renewable up to four years and one additional year for those entering a qualified five-year engineering program.
- $2,000 one-time awards for an additional 1,000 students.

Joe Cleres Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship established by the New Outlook Pioneers has been designated for students with disabilities.
The New Outlook Pioneers Scholarship for Students with Disabilities was established to assist mentally or physically challenged students in pursuit of further education. Physically or mentally challenged is defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1992. The applicant need not be related to a Pioneer.
All information on the application form should be completed accompanied by a one-page essay and one other page of supporting documentation relative to the student‟s accomplishments. The essay will be used by the judges to determine how the student met the challenge of his/her disability and, insofar as possible, contributed to the community. The type and severity of the disability will be considered. Previous application material will not be reused.
Nationally, the amount of scholarship awards will range from $1,500 to $500. All awards are to be used solely for tuition. Payment will be made directly to the school on behalf of the student. It is the responsibility of the student to provide a copy of his/her bill from the institution as proof of enrollment. Upon receipt of the tuition bill a check will be sent to the school.
