Shampoo 101

Shampooing seems pretty basic- jump in the shower, and wash your hair right?
Well, there is actually more to it. Follow our advice and get the most out of shampooing your hair.
1. Before you even step into the shower, brush your hair. It helps break down styling products, which make it easier for your shampoo to do its job. If your hair is curly, use your fingers or a wide tooth comb.
2.Detangle the easy way, for tangle-prone hair types, shampooing can be a pain in the drain. A helpful hint to try....apply a bit of Moroccan Oil to dry hair  and brush through. This will ease your brush-out and get rid of the tangles before your shampoo.
3. You must saturate your head completely with water before applying shampoo. If your hair is not wet enough, your shampoo will not be as effective. I know this sounds obvious, but how many times are you in a rush in the shower and have not gotten the underneath layers completely wet....live and learn
4. No hair piles please! Piling hair on top of your head means your shampoo won't get to the places it needs to go most- YOUR SCALP! Apply shampoo to your scalp first, and massage into a lather. The suds will naturally travel down the rest of your hair. Also, piling creates a mess of tangles to deal with when it is time to comb out your strands.
5. Rinse, Rinse, Rinse....one of the most common shampoo blunders is to use waayyyy to much shampoo, and then not rinse it out properly. Any residual shampoo will leave hair flat and can actually attract more dirt. Also, residual shampoo can build up on your scalp creating dandruff. For the best results rinse until the water stream runs clear down your drain. Use your hands to separate your hair and force water through out the whole head.
Teenagers are especially prone to poor shampooing technique. Given the fact that they think more is better, they are impatient, and generally think they know how to do everything.
Remember, hair has different needs depending on the season. Your stylist may recommend a combination of products to address your hair. Come into Hairthurium and our stylist will prescribe the correct hair care regimen for you.
