Sponsors Throw Merrimack Dog Park a Bone
Soon-to-be-built puppy play area proposed for Wasserman Park as fundraising efforts continue.

With the help of two local businesses, the long-awaited Dog Park at Wasserman Park is yet another step closer to construction, according to a press statement.
This spring the Friends of the Merrimack Dog Park announced the addition of their first Golden Bone sponsor for the Merrimack Dog Park project, Merrimack Smiles Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Mark Morris, owner of the local dental practice, donated $2,500 towards the future park.
All Paws & Pets Crematory recently signed on as the park’s Platinum Paw sponsor. The crematory, located in Merrimack, donated $5,000 towards the new dog park.

Plans for Merrimack’s new dog park have been in the works for the past several years. Initially, the all-volunteer Friends of the Merrimack Dog Park suggested building the enclosed, off-leash dog park within Watson Park. After a series of public meetings, town officials and citizens agreed Wasserman Park, located in a more remote area, would be a safer location for canines at play and also be in closer proximity to public rest rooms and water spigots. The updated plans, supported by the Merrimack Town Council, were finalized in late 2012 and fundraising efforts have been underway ever since.

As of this week, nearly $21,000 – just over a third of the $60,000 fundraising goal - had been donated towards the new dog park. The park is being fully-funded through private donations and there is no town budget for this project. Donations of all sizes will be put to good use and sponsorship is a great way to contribute to the local pet-lovers’ community while promoting your business. For more information or to make an online donation, visit merrimackdogpark.com. One-hundred percent of all monies received will be used towards this endeavor.
Once completed, Merrimack’s one-acre dog park will be incorporated into the existing town park, located at 116 Naticook Road and will feature separate, fenced-in areas for small and large dogs to romp about freely. The park project will be funded entirely by private donations.
