St. Patrick’s Day Dance, Spirit Assembly Postponed in Merrimack

Breaking: Merrimack High School cancels events due to threats; police are investigating.

MERRIMACK, NH — School officials in Merrimack have postponed two events at the high school today due to threat incidents, according to reports online. Ken Johnson, the principal of Merrimack High School, informed parents and posted a note online on March 16, 2018, that two major school events – a spirit assembly scheduled for this afternoon and the St. Patrick’s Day Dance scheduled for tonight – had been postponed.

“You may ask why?,” he posted online. “Well, earlier in the day as we moved toward the assembly, students reported to the administration minor acts of vandalism. Subsequently; students reported that some may purposely disrupt today’s assembly; and then, within one hour of the assembly, a student reported that he/she overheard a direct threat was made to students who gathered at the assembly itself."

Johnson said the school was working with police but with very little time to vet the threats, the only responsible decision was to postpone both events, in the name of student safety.
