Study: If You Work in Metro Boston, You Should Live in NH
Lower taxes, lower crime, lower housing expenses add up to a better quality of life, according to analysis by HSH.com.

A recent study of large metropolitan communities in the United States found that living outside of the big cities – and in at least a couple of cases, outside of the state – led to a better overall quality of life.
HSH.com, a company that publishes mortgage and consumer loan information, analyzed 17 communities – including Boston – and looked at the trade-offs of working and living in big cities versus working in a big city and living outside of the city in the suburbs.
In the study of Boston, the largest city in New England, it found that workers in that city would be better off living in New Hampshire than living in the suburbs of Massachusetts or Rhode Island.

The study analyzed tax rates, cost of living, crime rates, school performance, and real estate costs.
“The big potential win here is a move to New Hampshire, which has no income tax on wages, sharply lower home prices, and considerably less crime,” the study revealed.

The study countered, however, that Massachusetts has better standardized school test scores than either New Hampshire or Rhode Island.
