The Cranks Crank it up @ MHS

Missed last night’s Parks & Rec Summer Concert featuring The Cranks?  Check it out their new CD, “Orange,” that we just added to the Library’s collection!   http://findit.gmilcs.org/polaris/Search/default.aspx?ctx=21.1033.0.0.2

Thanks to our Youth Librarian Liz for her collaboration with this event – before the concert, teens munched on pizza in the MHS cafeteria while exploring a self-directed poster exhibit of the history of rock music.  There was also a station for creating buttons to wear highlighting their favorite bands.

The Cranks’ high-energy performance certainly wasn’t dampened by the weather that forced the concert indoors at the MHS Little Theatre.  Anchored by twins Haley Gowland (guitar and vocals) and Connor Gowland (drums and vocals) with Alex Markowski (bass, guitar and vocals), this up-and-coming local trio from Dunstable and Westford, MA, played a mix of acoustic and electric arrangements that included both covers and originals.  Rock the Cut endorsed their music as “100% authentic, upbeat and positive…reminiscent of proficient rockers like the Pretenders with the modern dynamics of Guster and the power of The Strokes and Weezer.” (http://rockthecut.supercuts.com/Home/ViewArtists/1091 Accessed 7/11/13)

I chatted with Mr. Gowland, Haley and Connor’s dad, as he rolled cables after the concert.  He informed me that the twins were starting college in the fall – both at different schools.  I certainly hope that they find time to perform and write new music; but witnessing their well-meaning sibling banter, I’m sure they will.  For more information on The Cranks, check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cranks/75457357498
