The Technology Student Association (TSA) from the Academy for Science and Design, an open-enrollment chartered public school servicing students in grades 6-12 that focuses on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is in Washington DC for the 2014 National TSA Conference. TSA is a national organization for students engaged in STEM courses.
According to the TSA website the conference will celebrate the contributions of advancing technology in our society with the theme “The Spirit of Innovation." The conference takes place June 27 – July 1 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. Middle and high school student members will take part in more than 60 competitive events based on principles and concepts learned through projects during the school year in STEM subjects. Throughout the school year, these students have been researching, designing, and building solar cars to bring to the conference to race against peers at the national level.
These ASD students have also been able to get some sightseeing in including visiting the U.S. Supreme Court building, the Navy Memorial, The White House, The Washington Monument, the National Sculpture Gardens, the Air and Space Museum and the Hirschorn Sculpture Gardens. There was a China and Kenya Folklore Festival taking place on the National Mall so the students were able to sample some delicious Chinese food with many of the students ordering their meal speaking Mandarin.
