Tomahawk Hockey Improves to 8-4

The Tomahawks began their busy schedule this week on the road in Exeter to take on the Winnacunnet Warriors.

Merrimack opened the scoring in the 1st period on the power play on a nice feed from senior Shane Foye to Senior Jason Fortin. Fortin one-timed the sharp angle back-door feed to finish the pretty play. Winnacunnet goalie Morgan McGirl made some outstanding saves to keep the Warriors in reach during the period.

Merrimack began to roll in the second period on goals by Foye (assisted by senior Aidan O’Brien) and sophomore John Tianno (assisted by junior Tyler Brewster).

The Tomahawks finished the scoring in the third period on goals from junior Kyle Feeney and a power play goal by junior Darwin Carozza (assisted by O’Brien and freshman Hunter Burke).

Senior net minder Matt Brewster didn’t see a lot of work in the contest but did have a nice second period save after a Winnacunnet face off win in the Merrimack zone. The Warriors pressed on a last minute power play with their goalie pulled for a two man advantage but couldn’t beat Brewster and the penalty kill unit. The win is the Tomahawk’s second shut out of the season.

The Tomahawks are back on the road to Exeter tomorrow night when they take on Portsmouth/Newmarket in a make up contest. Game time is 6:20 pm.
