Vaillancourt Tops Ticket in Town Council Race
Merrimack also approves $31.4 million budget by an almost two-to-one margin.

More than 2,000 residents went to the polls on April 14, 2015, to approve the town’s budget and elect candidates for Town Council and other offices.
In the main of two Town Council races, Jody Vaillancourt, Tom Koenig, and Nancy Harrington all won three-year terms on the board, according to the results. Vaillancourt received 1,226 votes with Koenig getting 1,100 and Harrington 1,068. The three bested Lon Woods and Mike Malzone, who received 987 votes and 864, respectively.
In the one-year seat race, Tom Mahon beat Lenette Peterson, 902 to 786 . Alexander Porada also received 236 votes, coming in third.

Rod Buckley easily won the Ethics Committee seat although there were 29 votes cast for Steven Rients via write-in. Jennifer Jobin won the Library Trustee seat with 1,568 votes with Janet Krupp receiving 115 write-in votes. Town Clerk Diane Trippett received 1,718 votes while Bruce Moreau received 1,677 votes for treasurer and William Wiles got 1,574 for Trustee of the Trust Funds. All three were uncontested.
Article 2, the town’s budget $31.4 million budget proposal, was approved by a vote of 1,309 to 761. Article 3, a collective bargaining agreement with AFSME for DPW, highway, waste water and solid waste, and mechanical workers, was also approved by a nearly three-to-one margin, 1,552 to 532.

According to Trippett, 2,166 voters participated in the election.
