At any time of year, looking after your nails and allowing them a detox from time to time is important. During the colder winter months especially, skin can become dry, nails can get brittle, and cuticles can split and peel. After all the rich colors of Fall, and glittery polish of the festive season, it's a really good idea to give your nails a break. It's time to hydrate, protect and get your hands ready for some exciting Spring colors.
Now is the perfect time to play it safe and treat your nails to a little TLC. Hairthurium offers a "sport" manicure this time of year to keep your nails at their best. Your nails are shaped, and buffed, cuticles are cared for and a nourishing massage, followed by a rich layer of intense moisture applied to your hands. Lastly, a nail strengthener is used to protect your nails. If you do not have time to pop in to the salon, the following tips will guide you through DYI home care.
Bare all
Firstly, you need remove any polish you might be wearing. Then, file them into shape and lightly buff the surface before you start the real pampering!
It's important to moisturise your hands, paying particular attention to your cuticles. A simple hand cream will suffice but if possible, it's good to use a cuticle oil as well. Hairthuriums resident nail expert Denise recommends Solar Oil cuticle oil by CND This will help to lock in moisture and protect against dry, cracking cuticles.

Repair + protect
After allowing the moisturizer enough time to sink in, apply a protective nail strengthener to nourish your nails. OPI nail strengthener is the product of choice. It will help to repair any existing nail damage and protect your nails from anything the outside world might have to throw at them.
It's also a really good idea to give your nails a rest for a few days, leaving them in their polish-free state while you get prepared for the release of hot new nail colors. Check out the Gwen Stefani OPI collection and stay tuned for the release of BRAZIL by OPI!
