Wrestlers Find Success in Holiday Tourney

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program sent thirteen wrestlers to compete in the Granite YMCA Holiday Tournament held at Bedford High School in Bedford, NH, December 21, 2014. Six wrestlers made it to the finals. Individual results were as follows:

Aiden Hanning, grade 6, pinned all three of his opponents en route to a first place finish.

Rhys Dewar, grade K, won one match by pin leading to a second place finish.

Cayden Dine, grade 1, won two matches, one via pin, to also finish in second.

Jackson Meehan, grade 1, pinned two opponents before falling by pin in the championship match to finish second.

Ivey Johnson, grade 2, won one match putting her on the podium in second place.

Kevin Sheridan, grade 3, pinned his first opponent but then lost a close championship match, finishing second.

Anson Dewar, grade 6, lost his first match but rallied back in the consolation bracket to win three matches and finish third.

Christian Makowski, grade 3, pinned two opponents to finish fourth overall.

Kindergartner, Collin Schuster, third graders, Mitchell Krupp and Kennedy Dillon, and sixth grader, Anthony Maglio, also competed.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-6. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world’s oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The Program is in its 9th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
