YMCA Emergency Childcare Receives NH Charitable Grant
These funds support the Y's Emergency Childcare Operations for healthcare workers and first responders in our community

The YMCA of Greater Nashua is grateful to be a recipient of a grant this week from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation's Community Crisis Action Fund and New Hampshire Tomorrow Early Education Development Fund to support the Y's Emergency Childcare Operations for healthcare workers and first responders in our community. More than 50 children are in the Y's care each day so that their parents can continue to work in key roles that support our community during the COVID-19 crisis. As always, thanks to donations to our Y Cares Financial Assistance Program, no one is being turned away from Emergency Childcare for inability to pay.
According to YMCA of Greater Nashua CEO Mike LaChance, "The leaders of Nashua's hospitals reached out to me in mid-March with a concern about their staff with young children needing child care they could trust and afford. Many of their medical staff, lab technicians, cleaning staff, hospital security personnel were facing school and day care closures and many had nowhere to turn for help with child care. I am grateful for all the Y's teachers in the Merrimack YMCA’s Early Education Center that are helping to support the child care needs of the essential personnel in the Greater Nashua community and proud that our Y can support the community in this way with emergency child care."
"The YMCA of Greater Nashua is very grateful for this gift from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation's Community Crisis Action Fund and New Hampshire Tomorrow Early Education Development Fund to support the Y's Emergency Childcare Operations. As a mission-driven organization, the Y does not turn anyone away for inability to pay and it is the gifts like this from individuals, businesses and foundations that enable the Y to live up to that mission, especially as so many of our neighbors are facing financial hardships now and in the months ahead," said Julianne Simendinger, Chief Development Officer for YMCA of Greater Nashua.
YMCA of Greater Nashua's Response to COVID-19: Based on continued recommendations from the CDC, state and local health officials and area government agencies, we have temporary suspended all YMCA facility access and programs until further notice. This includes facility access, group fitness classes and wellness programs in all YMCA facilities. We invite the community to Visit our Beyond Our Walls web page. You will find a set of virtual tools, open-air resources, and information you can put to use while we all comply with public health efforts. It’s our way of helping our community to stay active, healthy and connected in their own homes, and on their own time.
