YMCA Offers Child Care Seat Safety Checks On Sept. 24

Event offered in conjunction with MPD and MFD. Set for September 24 at Merrimack YMCA.

Parents and guardians, are you feeling confident that your child’s car seat is installed correctly? The Merrimack Police Department and Fire Department are jointly offering car seat safety inspections at the Merrimack YMCA (6 Henry Clay Drive) on Tuesday, September 24, 3:00 to 6:00pm. No reservation is necessary.

Car seats and boosters provide protection for infants and children in a crash, yet car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Association (NHTSA). That's why it's so important that the car seats and boosters correctly every time your child is in the car. While most families put kids in car seats, the latest research from the NHTSA shows 59 percent of car seats are not installed correctly.

Thank you to MPD’s Detective Bill Vandersyde and MFD’s Firefighter/Paramedic Melissa Winters who will be conducting this safety check.
