Merrimack 6th graders make good showing at "Meet of Champions" wrestling tournament
The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program sent two wrestlers to compete in the annual 5th and 6th grade “Meet of Champions” State Championship Wrestling Tournament held at Kearsarge Regional Middle School in New London, NH, March 1, 2015. Individual results were as follows:
Sixth grader Aiden Hanning breezed into the championship match by pinning his Seabrook opponent and racking up an 18-0 tech fall against his Timberlane foe. He faced off against long-time friend and on-mat rival, Zach Rioux from Nashua, for the State title. The championship match was another close one between the two with Rioux coming out on top by a score of 4-0. Both wrestlers will advance to the New England Championships to be held later this month.
Sixth grader Anson Dewar also competed in the tournament. He dominated his first match, winning via technical fall, 15-0. Dewar went on to drop his final two matches to Salem and Keene opponents respectively, taking him out of medal contention.
