Youth Wrestlers Finish Strong in Home Tourney

Merrimack Youth Wrestling Hosts 9th Annual "Tomahawk Throwdown" Tournament

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program hosted their 9th annual “Tomahawk Throwdown” tournament. One-hundred-eighty wrestlers from kindergarten through 4th grade competed in the tournament held at Merrimack Middle School in Merrimack, NH, January 17, 2015.

Participating teams from New Hampshire included: Derry, Keene, Kearsarge, Londonderry, Manchester, Merrimack, Nashua, Newport, and Salem.

Participating teams from Massachusetts included: Chelmsford, Dracut, Fitchburg, Tyngsborough, and Tewksbury.

The Merrimack team had nineteen wrestlers participate. Individual results were as follows:

Third grader Owen Forrest made a strong showing in his first tournament by pinning all three of his opponents to claim the first place crown.

Likewise, second grader Ivey Johnson pinned her way to a first place finish.

Second graders Christian Chestnut and Jackson Meehan, third graders Mitchell Krupp and Kennedy Dillon, and fourth grader Gavin Ross all racked up multiple wins to claim second place medals.

Third place medal winners included kindergartners Kael McAloon and Rhys Dewar, first graders Gryffen Gelinas, Cayden Dine and Mason Tremblay, and third graders Logan Maynard and Christian Makowski.

Fourth place finishers were kindergartner Colin Schuster, first grader Katelyn McCormack, third graders Marshall Koranda and Kevin Sheridan, and fourth grader Willem McNay.

The Merrimack Youth Wrestling Program is part of the Merrimack Youth Association. It strives to provide a safe recreational activity for Merrimack children in grades K-6. The program promotes the sport of wrestling, the world’s oldest sport, by providing a safe practice environment, by delivering high quality instruction, and by facilitating tournament competition opportunities. The Program is in its 9th season and currently has 40 wrestlers on its roster.
