Benefit to Help Milford Child Walk

Family of Aynslie Jayce to hold benefit Sunday at The Farm Bar and Grille in Manchester.

HOW You Can Help: benefit 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at The Farm Bar and Grille, 1181 Elm St., Manchester.

Unlike most children her age, Aynslie Jayce, 16 months, of Milford, will not be able to learn to walk until she has the first of multiple surgeries to address a congenital condition with no known cause.

Aynslie (daughter of Heathyr Spain and Josh Calaguiro of Milford) was born with Fibular Hemimelia, which results in the absence of the fibula and parts of the ankle joint. The “super ankle” procedure will support Aynslie's ankle where her fibula is missing. Aynslie’s tibia will also need lengthening in the first of three or four surgeries throughout her life. She will require daily physical therapy following the first surgery, which is scheduled for January.

The procedures will be led by world-renowned orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Dror Paley, and will take place at the Paley Institutein West Palm Beach, Fla., over the course of 3 months. Insurance will cover some of the cost of this surgery, but the family will be responsible for a large and unexpected remaining balance, as well as costs while living in Florida. Dr. Paley has been on Oprah, 20/20, and Dr. Oz.
