Why are you seeking elective office?
To offer my experience and expertise to the work of the School Board in ensuring that students are educationally prepared for the next step in their life-long learning.
The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
We need to refocus our efforts on providing academic excellence to our students and preparing them for the next step in their lives. To do that, we need to fix the deficiencies in the lines of communication, balance the academic offerings with the ability of taxpayers to support the programs, creatively open doors of opportunity, improve parental involvement in their child’s education, and establish a culture of respect.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
Leadership, political and parliamentary experience.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)
The cost per student has increased drastically, while enrollment has declined, and academic scores have been somewhat stagnant at a level lower than expectations. Communication lines are deficient among the Board, staff, and students.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
Creating opportunity and unlocking the potential in others, improving parental involvement in their child’s education, establishing a culture of respect, and increasing transparency.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
32 years serving at the state, county and local level of government have given me experience and expertise in understanding what works and what doesn’t work from a Board, committee, and citizen perspective.
The best advice ever shared with me was:
Listen before you speak.
There is no “I” in TEAM.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Political: NH Senate Finance Chair, involved in developing the state budget (4 years)
Established networks that could assist in achieving resolutions.
Military: U.S. Army, NH Army National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve
Community: Little Arrows Childcare Services Board of Directors
Granite State Taxpayers Board of Directors
