HPM Insurance Responds to Hands-Free Driving Law with Free Bluetooth Promotion

HPM Insurance of Milford and Bedford Help NH Drivers Prepare for July 1st Hands Free Law with Free Bluetooth Promotion

In response to the Hands Free Law that will take effect in NH on July 1, 2015, HPM Insurance of Milford and Bedford is providing a free Bluetooth headset to the first 100 people who request a quote for insurance and mentions the HPM Bluetooth promotion.

The Hands Free Law will prohibit drivers from hand-held electronic devices capable of providing voice or data communication while operating a motor vehicle. This includes while driving a motor vehicle as well as at a stop sign, traffic signal or other momentary delay. Drivers are allowed to make emergency calls to 911 or other public safety agencies.

The restrictions include driver usage of cell phones, gps devices, tablets, iPod, iPad or other devices that require data entry.

Because Bluetooth or other hands-free electronic devices will be allowed, Lyle Fulkerson, President and CEO of HPM Insurance, believes it is important to help the community understand the law and how to help citizens comply with it. “This is an important law that should help decrease the number of accidents on our roads,” Fulkerson said. “However, it may be difficult for many people to get used to. Our goal is to help get the message out and help drivers be ready for the changes.”

The penalties for using a handheld device without hands-free capability after July 1st will be as follows:
• 1st offense: $100 fine
• 2nd offense: $250 fine
• 3rd offense: $500 fine

The penalties are in addition to an increase in auto insurance premium paid, as the violations would most likely be considered a moving violation.

It will be illegal for drivers who are under the age of 18 to use any electronic device, whether utilizing Bluetooth technology or not, unless reporting an emergency to 911 or other safety agency.

HPM Insurance will be running the Bluetooth promotion while supplies last. For more information about the promotion, please visit www.HPMinsurance.com/blog. To get a quote and a free Bluetooth, please contact an HPM office at 603-673-1201 or email info@HPMinsurance.com.
