Kuster Advocates for Legislation to Eliminate Duplication, Improve Efficiency in the Federal Government
The Unified Savings and Accountability Act will save billions by implementing reforms across federal government

U.S. Rep. Ann McLane Kuster, D-NH, recently cosponsored a bill designed to save taxpayer dollars by eliminating duplication and inefficiency in agencies and programs across the federal government. The Unified Savings and Accountability Act will implement recommendations from the Government Accountability Office for cutting wasteful programs and taking steps to streamline practices, including promoting federal contract competition, cracking down on fraud, and consolidating data centers.
“Part of our responsibility in Congress is to cut spending and reduce the deficit by eliminating waste and duplication throughout the federal government,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “This bill would save billions of taxpayer dollars by eradicating inefficiency, while strengthening essential programs that grow the economy and create good middle class jobs. I’m proud to support this common sense, bipartisan legislation that cuts unnecessary programs while bolstering the priorities that matter to Granite Staters.”
The Unified Savings and Accountability Act aims to reduce duplication and inefficiency through a range of money-saving reforms to government agencies, including promoting federal bulk buying, cancelling passports of citizens who owe over $50,000 in taxes, and requiring agencies to better manage their information technology investments. The bill would also improve foreclosure mitigation efforts and enhance online taxpayer services, among other reforms.

Kuster is committed to cutting waste and inefficiency across the federal government while protecting important services for New Hampshire families. Last year, she introduced the Closing Long-Empty Accounts Now Act (CLEAN Act), legislation that would force federal agencies to close empty bank accounts that cost million to maintain despite serving no purpose. Kuster also helped form the United Solutions Caucus, a bipartisan coalition of first-term members of Congress who are focused on finding common sense solutions to our nation’s fiscal challenges.
