Small businesses have been hit the hardest by far when it comes to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many did not survive the demands of needing to accommodate restrictions or simply having to shut down completely. To keep the survivors afloat, there are many ways New Hampshire’s new state budget is trying to help, starting with the $1 billion in savings for Granite Staters over the next 10 years. Also, the rooms and meals tax will be lowered by 5.55%. What this means is that restaurants and locally owned inns will be cutting their taxes expenses. This will allow more affordability to visiting the state, which will bring in greater tourism after a year of virtually no travel at all.

With more tourism, this means more business for our small businesses. From downtown Portsmouth to up in North Conway, NH businesses will be thriving with all these tax cuts. Also, come fall and winter people will be more likely to choose New Hampshire for their seasonal foliage watching and skiing venues. Thankfully, 30,000 small businesses will also be exempt from even filing taxes due to an increased minimum for the business tax threshold, in turn giving these small businesses more money to invest in their future, and as a result the future of our state!
