NHSP Investigating Truck With Fireworks Left Unattended: Report

Atlas Fireworks employees allegedly left a truck filled with fireworks unattended and unlocked near the Mount Washington Hotel Saturday.

CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire State Police and state fire marshals’ office is investigating both federal motor carrier safety and hazardous materials violations on the grounds of the Mount Washington Hotel yesterday, according to an alert. At around 10 a.m. on Match 10, 2018, the Twin Mountain Fire Department’s fire chief arrived at the hotel to meet with a representative from Atlas Provision Entertainment Group Inc. of Jaffrey, a contracted to conduct a fireworks show at the resort. The chief allegedly found an unattended box truck on the grounds of the hotel that was unlocked, with the engine running, and all of the required Hazardous Material placards missing from the vehicle, according to Staff Sgt. William Burke of Troop G in Concord.

The chief conduct the fire marshals’ office along with troopers to investigate potential federal violations – including attendance and surveillance of a motor vehicle containing explosives, no drivers’ record of duty status, and vehicle not placarded as required, according to a report.

“The investigation revealed that the fireworks were classified as a 1.3G explosive and placards were required to be displayed on all four sides of any commercial motor vehicle that contained any amount of that type of explosives,” Burke alleged. “(Investigators) learned that in addition to leaving the vehicle running and unattended, company representatives had also left the grounds of the Mount Washington Hotel.”
