Planning Board Approves Proposed Amendments
These will go to the voters for approval in the town's March election.

The Milford Planning Board unanimously approved amending language relative to Accessory Dwelling Units under the town’s Zoning Ordinance.
No members of the public spoke during a Monday evening public hearing on the proposed amendments.
As amended, Article 4 defines an Accessory Dwelling Unit as “a second dwelling unit incorporated within an owner-occupied existing or proposed single-family home or its detached accessory structure.”

“The total area of the accessory dwelling unit shall not exceed 700 square-ft. and shall include not more than one bedroom. Use of the existing curb cut is required and any additional parking should be accommodated by the existing driveway or to the side or rear of the property. For the purpose of this ordinance an accessory dwelling unit is not considered an accessory use or structure(s),” the amended article reads.
Before approving the amendments, the board added language to Article 10, ‘Administrative Relief,’ to clarify that “an Accessory Dwelling Unit shall be located in an existing or proposed single-family home, or as a standalone dwelling unit subordinate to the single-family home.”

That language would need to translate over to Article 4, ‘Definitions,’ Chairperson Janet Langdell noted.
These and other Zoning Ordinance amendments will go to the voters for approval in the town’s March election.
