This is the Future Home of the Milford Ambulance Facility

A lot has been cleared at 66 Elm Street before construction begins on April 22.

A now-empty lot on Elm Street will soon become headquarters for the Milford Ambulance Service.

The $2.2 million ambulance facility will be built on 66 Elm Street this summer. The lot was cleared late last month, with construction beginning on Monday, April 22. The building should be ready for occupancy in late November this year.

The property used to house Harvey’s Music before it was torn down.

Director Eric Schelberg said that the 8,200 sq ft facility will include four ambulance bays, administrative offices, dorm space, medical storage and a community meeting room.

Two new ambulance vehicles will join their fleet, with only one of the older models being replaced. The other older vehicle will be kept in the bay as a spare.

Schelberg said the space will be a welcome change from their current one, which holds only two ambulance bays in its 3,5000 sq ft space.

“This will meet the immediate and long term needs of this department,” he said.

The new location will have no impact on response time, according to Schelberg, since their facility is not moving far from its original location under town hall. Over 17 property locations were considered after a considerable amount of work from the The Milford Community Facilities Advisory Committee.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 9 a.m.
