VT Teens Attempted To Flee Crash Scene: NHSP

New Hampshire State Police arrest Jonathan Grady after a crash on Route 12 in Walpole on Saturday. A second teen was injured by not charge.

WALPOLE, NH — A Vermont teen is facing charges after crashing a sedan while allegedly attempting to keep from being stopped by New Hampshire State Police. Jonathan L. Grady, 18, of Vernon, VT, was arrested on July 22, 2017, for disobeying an officer, conduct after an accident, misuse of plates, and unregistered vehicle. At around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night, a state trooper attempted to stop a Nissan Sentra for a motor vehicle violation, according to Staff Sgt. Jayson Almstrom of Troop C.

“The vehicle initially accelerated in an attempt to get away from (the) trooper but soon caught up to traffic at which time it pulled over,” Almstrom alleged. “(The) trooper exited his cruiser and gave the driver verbal commands. However, at that time, the vehicle fled from the traffic stop continuing northbound on Route 12. After traveling a short distance, the vehicle attempted to make a turn onto River Road in Walpole, was unable to negotiate the turn, and proceeded over and down an embankment where it crashed.”

The two occupants – Grady and another teen – allegedly left the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. NHSP called in a K-9 Unit and both Grady and the other teen were spotted in the woods along with the assistance of a Walpole officer. They were both then apprehended, according Almstrom.

Grady was arrested and charged. The second teen was not charged but sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to the Cheshire Medical Center by the Walpole Ambulance.
