We Demand that the Milford School Board Implement a Mask Mandate

It is sad that I need to even write this. The Milford School District has 116 and counting active COVID-19 cases, and the Milford School Board is doing nothing about it. There is no universal masking, no vaccine requirements for staff members and no social distancing. The Milford School District is operating like there is no pandemic happening, while cases and hospitalizations are skyrocketing locally and around the country. Local hospitals and emergency rooms are jammed-packed with COVID patients struggling to breathe. Thousands of Americans are dying every day from this virus. We need to do our part to save lives.

To make matters worse, the Milford School Board isn't even following their own Re-Opening Plan, which calls for universal masking when Milford's COVID positivity rate exceeds 5%. Currently, the positivity rate for Milford is pushing 20%.

We need to wear our masks, get vaccinated and boosted, and practice good hygiene if we ever wish to return to some level of normalcy.

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, more than 840,000 Americans have died from COVID. It is a disservice to those who have died that the Milford School Board does nothing to do their part in containing this virus: something as simple as a mask mandate.

How many more people must die from COVID for the Milford School Board to understand the importance of universal masking? This is basic common sense. Follow the public health guidelines. Do your job. Implement a mask mandate in the Milford School District.
