Military women risk their lives every day to protect the rights and freedoms of Americans at home. So why have servicewomen been denied their full rights and freedoms? Under current policy, if a woman in the military is raped and wants a safe and legal abortion, she must pay for it on her own dime, despite the fact that government sponsored health insurance covers this service for federal employees and Medicaid recipients. It’s an unfair and unjust policy—and Senator Shaheen wouldn’t let this stand. Earlier this year, she introduced an amendment that would provide this critical protection to military women, and with the support of the Defense Department and members on both sides of the aisle, it passed!

On a technicality, Shaheen gets a tip of the hat twice, since she's also among the 20 women of the senate – and , is also on that list of 20, so New Hampshire has at least twice as much to be proud of, based on this distinction.
