5 Displaced After Apartment Building Fire In Nashua
The Red Cross is assisting tenants who previously lived at a Vine Street apartment building after it was deemed uninhabitable Monday.
NASHUA, NH — Nashua fire and rescue teams were called to apartment fire on Vine Street Monday that displaced five people. The fire was reported at 11:35 a.m. in a building with four apartments. While en route, according to Deputy Chief Glen MacDonald of the Nashua Fire Department, firefighters were told one tenant might still be in the building but that turned out to be incorrect as all tenants were able to escape on their own.
"Ladder 2 arrived and reported black smoke coming from the chimney," MacDonald said. "There was also black smoke coming from the cellar windows. A working fire was called bringing Engine 6 and Ladder 1 to the scene. Engine 2 responded as the Rapid intervention Team (RIT) and an AMR ambulance also responded."
The first firefighter entered the building on the first floor as well as through a rear bulkhead door.

"This building had properly operating smoke detectors," MacDonald added. "It alerted the occupants to the fire. Install, and maintain, working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. It could save your family’s lives."
