5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 15
If we said there was something for everyone here in your morning news mashup, we wouldn't be lying.
1. Chelsea Nightly: Chelsea Clinton will join the "Nightly News" as a special correspondent, delivering news stories like any other TV journo. She's not the first President's daughter in the press corps: In 2009, NBC hired Jenna Bush Hager as a reporter for the "Today" show where she has delivered stories about a violin prodigy, a professional football player's charitable works, profiles of national parks and an interview with "Twilight" movie heartthrob Robert Pattinson.
President Truman's daughter, Margaret, hosted a radio show, "Authors in the News." John F. Kennedy Jr. co-founded the political magazine "George." Vice President Walter Mondale's daughter, Eleanor, worked as a television and radio host. Most recently, NBC's cable outlet, MSNBC, hired Meghan McCain — daughter of the U.S. senator and 2008 presidential candidate — to provide political commentary.
2. How Do You Mend a Broken Heart? Unlike the Bee Gee's rhetorical ballad, it looks like stem cells may be the magic bullet, as relayed in this account of cardiac patient Ken Milles, whose once-damaged heart is beating strong again.
3. Messing with Mario's Virtual Tanooki Suit: People for Ethical Treatment of Animals are taking issue with Nintendo's iconic Mario and his new racoon skin outfit, known as a "Tanooki suit." In Japan, a Tanuki is a little raccoon-like dog. In "Mario 3D Land," Mario sports a fur suit, and PETA is calling for the spritely Italian cartoon car racer to take it off and not promote the killing of innocent animals.

4. Got a Retro iPod Nano? Apple has recalled the first-generation iPod nano — the music player with a small screen, no video capability, and no touch screen. Those music players sold between September 2005 and December 2006 may contain batteries that overheat. "The issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect," the company said in a written statement.

5. Cinema Cabaret at the Nashua Library: It's date night at the library when the weekly movie night lands tonight, featuring "Beginners," starring Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer. If you have kids, get a sitter and join your friends at the Nashua Public Library for this R-rated film, that gets to the heart of how tranforming life can be.
