5 Things You Need to know Today: Oct. 3
From Bumbershoots to Backstreet Boys, today's 5 Things is a visual, musical, informational extravaganza of epic proportions. Oh, and Happy Andy Griffith Day.
1. Bumbershoot weather: One of those gray Mondays that leads to puddles, according to AccuWeather's forecast, which is calling for a high of 68, with rain starting sometime after noonish. Also the kind of day that can lead to watching great rainy day videos, like this one, by the Beatles (note Paul McCartney's snaggle tooth and the lack of actual rain.) We've added a few more of our favorites. Make sure to check them out.
2. Ron Paul in Town: By now you may have heard that Ron Paul will be appearing at tonight, brought to you by local political activist Jennifer Horn, founder of We The People Freedom Forum. Horn tells us registration is encouraged but not required, and there's plenty of room for everyone. Starts at 6:30 p.m.
3. Buffalo gals won't you come out tonight: Which came first, the chicken wings or the blue cheese with celery chaser? Thank you, Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY, for concocting Buffalo Wings 47 years ago today. If you know of anyone with hot wing specials tonight, please post here for your fellow Nashua Patch wing nuts. And while we're at it, let us know who serves up your favorite chicken wings in town.

4. Libra is for music makers: A good day to be born, if you're a musician. Also born today: Original Twista' Chubby Checker (70); Fleetwood Macian Lindsey Buckingham (62); Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson (40); Riot Grrrl Gwen Stefani (42); soul singer India.Arie (36); and the other singing Simpson, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz (27).
5. Remembering Mayberry: If you are old enough to remember "The Andy Griffith Show," you'll appreciate knowing today is Andy Griffith Day, in honor of the TV show's debut, Oct. 3, 1960. If you're not familiar with Andy and Barney and Gomer, you're in luck, thanks to TAGSRWC – yes that's right, The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club, 1,000 national chapters strong, and looking to grow. Good news is there are two chapters already listed in NH, in Portsmouth and Hancock, although we couldn't find a good contact for either. Come on, Nashua, get one going. Do it for Opie.
