Nashua Native Nominated for International Net Awards

Tyngsboro, MA - Jennie Lamere never thought, while walking the halls of the Academy of Notre Dame, that she would become Twitter’s youngest-ever intern and develop an app that would win her awards and far-reaching recognition.

Lamere, of Nashua, graduated from the Academy last year and went on to study software engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology. She won the grand prize—as the only participating female—at Boston’s TVNext Hack for inventing Twivo, a clever app that blocks TV show spoilers from your Twitter feed. She was also featured in a Seventeen magazine article titled “How to Get Important People to Look Past Your Age,” in which she cites confidence and believing in your ideas as key to being taken seriously at a young age.

Now, just one year after teaching herself JavaScript, she has been nominated for Net Magazine’s 2014 Net Awards in the category of Emerging Talent of the Year. She is the only woman nominated in the 10-person category and the only nominee from the U.S. A public online vote will determine if she will be selected as one of the top five nominees and receive an invitation to the finals ceremony in London on May 9.

"I'm very excited to be nominated for the ‘Emerging Talent of the Year’ award,” said Lamere. “It's hard to believe how far I've come since taking the computer science sequence at the Academy of Notre Dame my sophomore year. I don't think I would have been able to accomplish what I have without the wide skill set I acquired as a result of my education at NDA. I am forever grateful for my ability to speak in front of others and manage several projects at once."

In addition to all of her accomplishments since graduating from the Academy last year, Lamere has had a lasting impact on the Notre Dame community—and is receiving an outpouring of support in the form of votes and spreading the word about her award nomination.

“The faculty and students here at Notre Dame are thrilled to see Jennie's intelligence and passion recognized,” said Helen Kay, High School Principal. “We are not surprised, though. As a student and member of our student leadership group, Jennie worked hard and developed herself into an integral part of our community. And now, that community is standing behind her. She is definitely getting our votes.”
