Education

The Academy for Science and Design (ASD), a public charter school located in Nashua, New Hampshire donated 100 personal toiletry bags to the Nashua Soup Kitchen on December 18, 2014. Part of the mission of ASD is to create responsible global citizens and as such ASD will periodically organize service projects that support the schools humanitarian efforts. For this service project, ASD partnered with the Nashua Soup Kitchen. Each grade was assigned items to donate in order to put at least 100 personal care packages together for homeless and disadvantaged people in the Nashua area. The items in these care packages included shampoo, combs, toothbrushes and toothpaste, tube socks, soap, winter gloves and more. The bags used were sewn by Kym Harmon, the Business Manager at ASD. The Nashua Soup Kitchen plans to distribute these on Christmas morning.
“Let me share with you what we will be able to do with these. We can make sure everyone in our shelter gets a toiletry bag on Christmas morning.” Carol Weeks, Nashua Soup Kitchens community outreach manager said in an email. We see many homeless at breakfast and it will be so nice for them to get something and know someone has been thinking of them.” Weeks continued.
