Academy for Science and Design Announces the Addition of Fifth Grade

The Academy for Science and Design Chartered Public School (ASD), located at 486 Amherst Street in Nashua announced today the expansion of its already highly established charter school to include fifth-grade classroom(s) beginning in the fall 2023.

ASD recently announced the purchase of a new building located at 9 Townsend West in Nashua. The new building provides more than double the current square footage, enabling the school to expand its existing charter. A charter amendment was approved by the NH State Board of Education on January 12 in Concord, NH laying the groundwork to increase enrollment for the upcoming school year.

The expansion comes at a time of an ever-increasing demand in the Granite state for high-quality, STEM-focused public-school options. ASD continues to be at the forefront of public, tuition-free educational institutions and is currently ranked the #1 public middle school and #1 public high school in NH by U.S. News & World Report. The addition of fifth grade will provide students with an earlier exposure to STEM opportunities, as well as building the solid foundational skills needed to thrive at ASD.

ASD Board of Trustees Chairman, Rick Bartle added, “ASD now has the space to provide more NH students access to our STEM-focused programming. By offering a fifth grade, we will have the chance to connect with more NH communities and families. The additional year will also improve educational outcomes and, in the long term, contribute to a STEM-skilled NH workforce.” ASD’s announcement happens to coincide with National School Choice week, a nonpolitical and nonpartisan effort to advocate and raise awareness about school choice.

A separate admissions lottery for students entering fifth grade for the 2023-2024 school year is currently scheduled to take place on March 29, 2023. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend one of the scheduled information sessions in the upcoming months.
