The Academy for Science and Design Wins Regional MathCounts Event
The 34th Annual Southern New Hampshire Regional MATHCOUNTS competition on Saturday, February 4, 2017, in Bedford, New Hampshire.

The Academy for Science and Design Charter School (ASD), the state’s top-performing public school, and largest STEM-specialty school, serving students in grades 6-12, took first-place honors at the 34th Annual Southern New Hampshire Regional MATHCOUNTS competition on Saturday, February 4, 2017, in Bedford, New Hampshire.
The winning team, coached by Karen Legault and Lalit Shinde consists of Rucha Dave, Suryam Gupta, Akshay Shinde and Rebecca Zhu. They competed against other regional middle school teams in this prestigious competition, which engages the best and brightest in middle school mathematics in an exciting math competition.
The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is America’s only nationwide competition program that motivates and rewards middle school students for math achievement. MATHCOUNTS inspires excellence, confidence, and curiosity in U.S. middle school students through fun and challenging math programs. More than 100,000 students and more than 6,000 schools register annually to compete in the MATHCOUNTS Competition Program. Nearly 90 middle school students at ASD participated in the MATHCOUNTS programs this year. Math Department Chair Karen Legault coordinates the MATHCOUNTS program at ASD.

In the individual competition, ASD students Akshay Shinde took first place, and Suryam Gupta placed 2nd.
In the fast-paced Countdown Round, Abigail Thomas won 1st place, Suryam Gupta placed 2nd, and Rebecca Zhu placed 3rd.
The members of the top team from the Academy for Science and Design will be joined by three additional ASD students, Nitya Babbar, Abigail Thomas and Anjali Tummala at the State competition where they will compete as individuals.

The Academy for Science and Design is actively seeking to partner with local companies and businesses for student-centered things such as internships in STEM fields for our students, financial donations, or presenters for our school for the SPARK Conferences. Financial contributions can be an outright financial contribution in the amount of your choice or can consist of underwriting costs for installing a specific facility technology or program.
