NASHUA, NH — Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua has been named one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2026 by Newsweek in partnership with Statista, a global data and analytics firm.
The recognition gave the hospital five out of five ribbons and cited its maternity care services, the org said.
The health system said the selection followed a review of maternity care performance, including prenatal support, labor and delivery services, and postpartum care. Newsweek’s criteria included hospital quality metrics tied to maternity care, patient experience drawn from public hospital survey data, and a reputation score based on recommendations from healthcare professionals.
“We are proud to be recognized for excellence in maternity care,” Dr. Salvatore Vella Jr., the SVP & Chief Medical Officer of Foundation Medical Partners, said. “Southern New Hampshire Health takes pride in caring for our neighbors from the day they’re born through every phase of their life.”
Southern New Hampshire Health said the ranking reflects a coordinated, patient-centered approach to care for families in the community. The organization said inclusion on the list highlights its commitment to comprehensive maternity care in the greater Nashua region.
The announcement also pointed to a broader national backdrop. Southern New Hampshire Health said the recognition is notable because more than a third of U.S. counties are considered maternity care deserts.
Dr. Kellie Motschmann, OB/GYN Department Chair at Southern NH Medical Center, said strong maternity care can have lasting effects in a community.
“Starting with a strong foundation sets up each member of our community to thrive,” she said. “By delivering expert and compassionate maternity care, we help those around us create healthy building blocks for the future.”
Southern New Hampshire Health directed readers to more information about The Birth Place at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, where close to a thousand babies were born last year. No additional timetable or follow-up announcement was included in the release.
Southern New Hampshire Health is a nonprofit healthcare system that has served the greater Nashua community since 1893. Its network includes Southern NH Medical Center, Foundation Medical Partners, and five walk-in Immediate Care facilities serving southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.
