NASHUA, NH — A woman died after a late-night fire at a multifamily home on Morgan Street Sunday night, according to officials.
Nashua Fire Rescue responded at 11:02 p.m. May 31 to 24 Morgan St. for a reported fire. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire on the second floor of the multilevel home and immediately began efforts to contain it.
The flames were quickly knocked down, but one apartment unit was badly damaged, and the rest of the building suffered smoke damage. During a search of the building, fire personnel found an adult woman dead on the second floor. She was identified as Stephanie D. Lemay, 46, of Nashua. She was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. Her cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation, and the manner of death was accidental.
About 10 residents were displaced by the fire. No first responders were injured.
Investigators with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the fire’s origin and cause. The announcement said all aspects of the fire remain under investigation, but it is not currently considered suspicious.

Nashua Fire Rescue and the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office recommend residents leave immediately when smoke alarms sound and close doors while exiting.
The investigation remains ongoing.
