Beautiful Day for an Art Walk

The City Arts event provides a tour of some of the city's MVPs – most valuable painters, photographers, sculptors, artisans and more.

Carla Sullivan looked serene, seated across from a wall of colorful paintings in a sunlit room at Indian Head Plaza.

"My dad and I always did shows together," said Sullivan. The paintings on the wall are a collection of work by her late father, Carlo Ripaldi, who died in March.

Even as day one of the weekend City Art's Art Walk wound down, a steady flow of art aficionados streamed into the plaza to admire the work on display by several local artists and artisans. [Click here for a rundown of today's Art Walk venues.]

Sullivan is a mosaic artist who describes herself as a recycler.

"This is made from a window frame from the porch of an old 1860s house. I imagine the design and then I find the glass I need to execute it," said Sullivan.

Two women  have just entered the space, and are taken by Sullivan's work.

"I attended last year, and so I brought my friend with me this year," said Sharon McWilliams of Litchfield. Her friend, Gail Frederick said she's been to similar events in Lowell, and was happy to know Nashua is a viable arts hub.

McWilliams said they'd just finished a tour of the Picker Building, at 99 Factory St., near Clocktower Place.

"We started on the fourth floor and worked our way down – that's what we were advised to do. Wow, what amazing work over there," said McWilliams, particularly taken by the 3D work of Nashua artist and State Rep Ken Gidge.

"His work is incredible. It's all incredible," McWilliams said.

Down the street and around the corner at 100 Main St., longtime supporter of the arts Meri Goyette was signing copies of her book, "Nashua People & Places," recently published as a fundraiser for Nashua Historical Society.

Proceeds from the book will go toward supporting the arts in the city of Nashua.

The Art Walk continues today from noon to 4 p.m.
