Book Signing Event with Nashua Boys & Girls Club Alum
Bring your kids to meet author David Cunningham at the Boys and Girls Club.
Author David Cunningham is returning to Nashua for a book signing on November 25 from 4-6 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Nashua – his former stomping ground – to celebrate his first middle reader novel, "The Wacky Winter on Wiggly Way." This will be an interactive session with trivia, Q & A and book give-away.
With humor and heart, this uplifting short novel introduces us to the unlikely friendships that blossom among various tenants (and their magical pets) in the shadow of their cranky old landlord, Piggly Wiggly. Never satisfied with its enormity, Piggly Wiggly continues to build a monstrous wall around his boarding house to keep those on the outside from getting in, and to keep those inside from breaking free.
“I’ve spent my adult life working with kids who feel they are boxed in by obstacles that are out of their control. I hope to expose them to a new paradigm of thinking and the skills to face these adversities.” said Mr. Cunningham. “If I can continue to help them by writing stories behind my desk, that’s a great thing, right?”

Cunningham held a launch party Oct. 5 at the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester, Mass.
Cunningham grew up as a Nashua clubber and recalls he was at the grand opening and the sealing of the Boys Club Time Capsule in 1974 when his father, Stephen Cunningham, was working at the club as the Individual Services director. This made an impression because David later went on to serve in the same position 20 years later at the club in Salem, Mass. He has recently worked as a program director for NAFI before taking on this adventure of writing and publishing. Working with kids has always been in Cunningham’s blood.

“I’m not going to claim I know how all kids think or that I know how to solve every problem,” said Mr. Cunningham. “But, I’ve seen hundreds of kids face personal hardship and still find the strength within themselves to overcome their personal barriers. I’ve picked up a few things about their fears so I decided to write a story about it. And, I’ve at least learned how to outsmart them,” the author finished with a chuckle.
The idea for the themes in the book, overcoming loss, fear and doubt, came to him after the breakup of his family, a loss of a job, and relocating to a new state and hat t forced him reassess his own place in the world.
Already a wonderful story teller around the campfire, he has remade himself into a writer to share those hard earned lessons with a larger group.
“Life is change they say, and we just have to make the best of it,” paraphrased Mr. Cunningham. “There’s no shame in getting knocked into the dirt. That’s how I live, so that’s what I decided to write about. I hope parents and their kids like the book.”
With all his years of experience around kids, his readers should be in the most capable hands. Books are now available on Amazon.com
